What is Detox, How Does One Know When the Body Needs to Be Detoxed, and Where Do you Begin?

Detox means, “cleansing the blood”.  Basically, detoxification is about resting, cleansing, and nourishing the body from the inside out.  By removing and eliminating toxins, then feeding your body with essential, healthy nutrients, detoxification can help protect you from disease and renew your body’s ability to maintain optimum health (Smith, 2011).

What Detox Does

Detox removes the impurities, from the blood, in the liver, where toxins are processed for elimination.  Toxins are also eliminated through the kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymph, and skin.  When this system is compromised, impurities are improperly filtered and every cell in the body is adversely affected.  The body has its own natural, healing system; detoxification enhances it (Smith, 2011).

How Do You Know When Your Body Needs to Be Detoxed

If you’re dealing with any of the issues listed below, you may need to consider detoxification:

  • digestive problems
  • sluggish elimination
  • unexplained fatigue
  • allergies
  • low grade infections
  • bags under eyes
  • aches and pains
  • skin irritations
  • trouble loosing weight
  • stress

Where Do You Begin

You can detox yourself or have a group of professionals, as those of our clinic, assist, guide, or take you through the process.  To begin with, lighten up on your toxic load by eliminating items like coffee, cigarettes, refined sugars, and saturated fats.  These items act as toxins in your body and makes it harder for the healing process to take place.  Also, eliminate the use of chemical based household cleaners and personal health care such as cleansers, shampoos, deodorants and toothpastes — substitute with alternatives.
