“A common denominator of all disease is that of acidity in the body” (Herlacher). According to Dr. Herlacher, disease comes from inside the body, and not the outside. The internal terrains, at a cellular level, are the focus of health and disease. A sick, internal milieu attracts pathogens like garbage attracts rats. Such environments cause oxygen blockages in cells and are responsible for a vicious cycle of acidification that ultimately leads to degenerative diseases.
Our diets are often rich in acid-forming foods, such as sugar, white flour, milk products, and cola drinks. These foods obviously raise acidic levels in the body and create a doorway for the invasion of disease.
Colas combine sugar with phosphoric acid and produce a powerful, acidic effect. These drinks have a pH of 2.5 and are almost 50,000 times more acidic than water. (Pure water has a pH of 7 and is considered neutral. When pH is less than 7, it is considered acidic, and when it is greater than 7, it is considered basic (Herlacher), or alkaline).
To counteract the consumption of one glass of cola, you would have to drink 32 glasses of neutral water. Drinking more “neutral” water could improve your body’s ability to fight off disease?
In many cases, due to long term acidic levels, patients are eventually diagnosed with some form of disease. Because alkaline water’s pH is higher than neutral water and is very alkaline, alkaline water has been effective in both, slowing the growth of diseased cells and even killing them off all-together. Diseased cells cannot thrive in alkaline environments. Too add, Alkaline water is a de-acidifier, it removes toxic waste from the body, and is also an antioxidant –alkaline water neutralizes free radicals by making plenty of oxygen molecules available to damaged cells (Kehr W).
The lack of oxygen respiration, at cellular levels, is the primary cause of disease (Cancer Fighting Strategies). Water carries oxygen. Our cells need oxygen to reproduce and metabolize. Low levels of oxygen equals low pH levels, while increased levels of oxygen will increase pH levels (Herlacher). Therefore, drinking water that has acidic pH levels, will merely feed carcinogens and other toxins that produce diseased cells. If we are to maintain optimal health, it is important that we control our body’s acidic levels. We should monitor pH levels in our water and also avoid the consumption of as many acidic-forming foods as possible.
