The liver plays an important role in the digestive system. It works along with the pancreas, gallbladder, and intestines to digest, absorb, and process food, but the liver’s main function is to filter blood coming from the digestive tract as it passes to the rest of the body. The liver detoxifies and metabolizes chemicals and drugs while secreting bile back into the intestines. In addition, the liver also produces proteins that are important for blood clotting and other functions (webMD, 2009).
At some point your liver may build up toxins, become clogged, and need flushing. If you have experienced the following, you need a liver detox.
Above are all signs that you need to take action. In some cases people’s livers may get beyond the issues listed and end up with cancer. If this is the case, detox is more crucial than ever.
A primary method for liver detox, today, is that of coffee enemas, taken from the Gerson Therapy. The Gerson Therapy could recommend up to 5 enemas per day, depending on the needs of the patient. The Gerson Therapy is mainly utilized on cancer patients, but is also used to detox the symptoms listed above.
Coffee enema’s specific purpose is to lower serum toxins. The enema causes dilation of the bile ducts, facilitating excretion of toxic cancer breakdown products by the liver and dialysis of toxic products from blood across the colonic wall. 32 fluid oz. of the coffee solution will dilute portal blood, and subsequently, the bile.
Because the stimulating enema is retained for 15 minutes and all the blood passes through the liver nearly every 3 minutes, the enema represents a form of dialysis of the the blood across the gut wall.
Bile is normally re-absorbed up to 9 times before working its way out of the intestines. Unlike other choleretic medications, the enzyme enhancing abilities of coffee enemas is unique because it does not allow re-absorption of toxic bile, by the liver, across the gut wall, allowing for a more potent detox.
Detoxing the liver with coffee enamas is thorough, but other factors come into play for best results. To begin your detox, there are 4 things you need to do to complete the process. They are listed below.
1) Reduce your exposure to air-borne toxins such as:
2) Change your eating habits
3) Add more supportive foods and nutrients to help repair your liver and other organs such as:
4) Use supportive herbs for rebuilding liver health such as:
